Well, the aforementioned deal went through after all...
I still think Suns will be contenders this playoffs, but then lets just watch and see.

Here's a couple of reasons why the Shaq deal could work for Phoenix.
1) Shaq's a winner. LA, Miami both championship winning teams where he made the difference.Phoenix have a core of players who are great in the regular season but are just missing a certain extra something that was needed for playoff success. Shaq IS that edge ! 2)It's now or never for the suns! Nash is at, if not just past his peak and Amare's almost there. They just need one really big season out of 'big daddy'. The 2.5 years or whatever that's on the contract are immaterial if he can help bring home that one elusive championship.Anything they get out of him after that is just a bonus. 3)Phoenix rely heavily of fast breaks and struggle against teams that don't turn the ball over. They play good quick basketball but lack a plan 'B'. Especially when they'r down and chasing the game...... Get Nash to lump the ball in to Shaq at the post and let him do his thing ! Even if he only plays in short bursts it's 20 points a night guarenteed..
Of course all this depends on how many games Shaq's injuries will let him play. That aside, if they can keep him fit I think he could be a tremendous asset to the suns.
The Shaq deal went through as expected (short contract though). Few can still go up against the "diesel" without getting something back. So let's see if the Suns actually make more of their talent pool this year. It's a shame that they haven't anything substantial yet. It's like the Kings in the early 2000's who came up against the Lakers everytime (unsuccessful in playoffs, brilliant games and players all in all).
I like the Gasol move better. While in Memphis he was by far their best player, with conisitent performances though the team was in shambles. It's been a good while since i've seen a Laker game. Waiting for the opportunity to see now.
Also may those who cut ESPN telecast on the all-star game day (India) find maggots (maurice thing) in every turn they encounter. i know a few who concur with this view.

Absolutely agree with both the Sharaths, and especially like the maurice statement :-)
